I…  Don’t see the issue here.  There are hints that Emil is into Richter, yes, and I could very easily see this having been the canon pairing had the game gone a bit differently, but we all know it’s not technically canon.

At least…  I think we do.  XD  I’ve not really talked to anybody who was in true denial about it not actually being canon.

I love the ship myself, honestly.  I do think that, given time, Richter could come to care for Emil for who he is rather than who he looks like, personally.

Though…  I rabidly ship Richter/Aster, too…

(Marta/Ratatosk is my preference over Marta/Emil…  that way Richter/Emil can happen.  XD  I don’t do “Die For Our Ship.”  Though… RataEmi is rather cute…)

Richter loved Aster, and I think that was romantic love myself (though I understand and appreciate the view that it was just deep friendship and/or possibly almost like a brother instead), but I think that Emil could help Richter eventually move on, and come to terms with Aster’s death.

I got a little headcanon of mine, though, about that.  I figure Aster, having known Richter would outlive him no matter what, has told Richter before that when his life does end he wants Richter to move on and find love again.  And, I think that Richter could come to love Emil as well as Aster.

But this ship just gives me so many feels, and I love it.

But I don’t take it as “practically canon”.  PLENTY of fandoms have very popular non-canon ships, it’s rather silly to get annoyed that a non-canon ship gains popularity.

I mean, if you’re annoyed with people being jerks about it, that’s one thing.  They shouldn’t do that.  But to just be annoyed that a non-canon ship has such wide-spread popularity?  That’s…  Very silly, IMO.

(I mean, you don’t have to like it—that’s cool if you don’t like the ship and all.)
