Rant on the hate Dawn of the New World gets below the cut.
If you don’t like the game, don’t bother reading if you plan to start shit. I recognize that not everybody likes it and I respect that—but I get a little pissed seeing some of the baseless hate thrown around. And I like to keep quiet about it, because I don’t often like to start shit. But I’m tired and don’t feel well. So yeah. Rant.
A lot of this is stuff I’ve wanted to say for ages but held back because I didn’t wanna start shit.
Also, if anybody DOES bother reading it—sorry if some/all of it is incoherent or doesn’t make sense. It’s almost 5am, I can’t sleep, and I don’t feel well so yeah.
If any of you out there don’t like Emil Castagnier, come forth now so I can beat the tar out of you.
Some people bitch that he’s too timid. He was heavily abused his entire waking life; what the fuck did you expect?
Some people bitch that his character took too long to “grow a spine”: abuse and psychological trauma is not something people ‘just get over’ you entitled pricks.
Emil is a character with genuine psychological problems, and he manages to overcome them. He struggles with self-esteem and even tries to commit suicide during the course of the game. Still, he’s a good person and wants to believe the best of humanity. Were I him, all my suspicions about humanity being evil would just be confirmed and I’d be genocidal. Emil wasn’t. His personality is powerful when you think about it. How many abuse victims out there wish that they could be like Emil? He faced down his abusers and forgave them everything. He loved even when it would hurt him to do so. He gave up everything for a world that hadn’t shown him much in the way of kindness. If you don’t like Emil Castagnier, fuck you.PERFECTION
I respect you right to dislike any character for any reason.
But if you hate on Emil like an ass (not liking him =/= being an asshole in your hatred, btw) especially for being “weak” or “pathetic” or “a coward” or something…
You stay the fuck away from me or there WILL be problems.

BUT THIS IS SO TRUE IN MY OPINION.
Oh, hell yes I have always believed this. OP, whoever you are, I cannot express how much I agree with you.
I mean, it’s outrighted stated that he’s physically abused—there’s a skit near the start where he’s afraid his uncle will hit him again.
He’s bullied by the townspeople, and he’s been physically struck at least once by one of his guardians—and his reaction, as well as his uncle’s behavior really makes me thing it wasn’t just a one-time “smack him in a fit of frustration/anger” kind of thing.
To me, the reason he was okay with agreeing to try to start over was because he honestly didn’t think he’d be coming back. I personally think that he’d have been a lot more wary of that if he’d have thought he was going to return.
Emil Castagnier is my favorite character, and I relate to him a lot!

There’s no way to return to the way we were then. Instead of starting from there again, it’s better to make a new beginning.
